President
1. How did you get into Roller Derby and What made you stay? I saw a recruitment flyer on FB for a team out of Stockton and went to check out their practice. The moment I saw them flying around the track on their skates and hitting each other with ease and fierceness, I knew I wanted to stick around and be that badass, so I did.
2. Do you have any Pre-Bout Rituals or Superstitions? Not really, but I do have to wear a certain style of socks and leggings when I skate.
3. What's your biggest motivation? Knowing my daughter is watching my every move. I want her to see that there are no limits to what she can accomplish and do in life.
4. What's your derby hype song? We had a song made for us by this amazing artist named Syntheralux called "Welcome to Hell", Syn hit the mark both lyrically and musically.
5. What's something you wish people knew about derby? It's a full-time commitment with many layers to it.

6. What advice would you give to a new skater just starting derby? Your progress is your own and so is the journey, don't ever compare yourself to another skater because everyone grows and excels at their own pace.
7. What's your favorite part about being in this league? It's a really great group of people which makes for a fun environment.
T MONEY #40

1) What was the Inspiration behind your derby name?
My husband referred to me as T Money once when we had just started dating. And since then it just stuck ! I guess you would say T Money is my badass alter ego.
2) How many years have you been skating?
I’ve been skating for less than a year ! I bought my very first pair of skates at the end of a pub crawl during my 40th birthday party. It may have been a drunken decision to start skating but it was one of my best drunken decisions I’ve made.
3) Are you a Blocker or Jammer?
I’m not sure yet ! I’m just super pumped to be on skates and be a part of the team !!
4) What do you love about playing roller derby?
As a busy working mom, my day revolves around doing things for others and roller derby has given me something for ME. When I’m out on the track skating with my team I am literally giggling and smiling ear to ear (even when I’m falling on my ass) I love it !
5) Do you have any other hobbies?
Most my day is taken up raising babies and taking care of kiddos ! But I love all things jewelry and fashion, dressing up and styling different looks brings me joy, if I’m not on skates you’ll see me in heels and decked out in jewelry .
SECRET SQUIRREL #77

1. How did you get into Roller Derby and what made you stay? Someone on the team gave me a flyer at the farmers market and I thought it sounded fun. I stay because ITS SO MUCH FUN!
2. Do you have any pre-bout rituals or superstitions? I love putting on my derby make up (All the glitter! All the eye gems!) and red hair (for home games).
3. What’s your biggest motivation? To get that MVB award! Also, to be better than I was last time.
4. What’s your derby hype song? Not sure I have a DERBY hype song, but silly songs like Gunfight by Sick Puppies or Nobody Speak by DJ Shadow hype me up. Or whatever Spotify plays on their Godsmack radio station.
5. What’s something you wish people knew about Roller Derby? The kool-aid is delicious ;) Derby is for everybody and every BODY. Come check us out!
6. What advice would you give to a new skater just starting derby? Don't quit. In the beginning its hard, there are A LOT of rules (so many rules!!), you will probably fall a lot. Thats ok. Just keep going.
7. What’s your favorite part about being in this league? I love how much fun we have at practice. Its such a great group of peoples.
GIGA BITE #101

1. What was the Inspiration behind your derby name? I do software development, and it seemed like a nice pun / callout to that
2. How many years have you been skating? Less than a year on skates, but I rollerbladed as a kid.
3. Are you a Blocker or Jammer? We’ll see!
4. What do you love about playing roller derby?Exercise is way more fun on skates! Also, the team is super great.
5. Do you have any other hobbies? Crocheting and gaming.
RAINBOW SMITE #887

1. What was the Inspiration behind your derby name?
It’s a reference to the LGBTQ-community-adopted character Rainbow Brite and her battle for color and diversity against a land of dull conformity, but with a little extra action in “Smite”, which I preferred for its connotation of righteous destruction. Also before I even picked that name, my gear was all rainbows!
2. How many years have you been skating?
Less than 1 year on quads! I had in-line skates in the ancient ’90s, and I had skated a little on those in years since, but very infrequently. I’d had 20 minutes of time on skates before I showed up to my first derby practice!
3. Are you a Blocker or Jammer?
I would love to Jam because I love the mental game of psyching people out and getting past the blockers, plus I love skating really fast, but blocking is super satisfying as well. I’m just happy to be on the track!
4. What do you love about playing roller derby?
I love so much! I love the way it helps me become aware of my body and develop trust and confidence in what I can do. I love the spatial and emotional awareness it builds with your teammates on the track, with so much happening at once you have to really learn to attune your consciousness and focus. And I deeply love the community, with its spirit of empowerment, celebrating your teammates, yourself, and your competitors, and the fierce core commitment to people of every skill, gender, and background that this sport also welcomes them, too.
5. Do you have any other hobbies?
I am kept pretty busy by my three kids but I am always doing some kind of singing/songwriting, and I love photography, filmmaking, and cooking!
ROAD KILL #800

1. Do you have a derby name yet?
I do not have a derby name yet. I hope inspiration will strike me soon.
2. How long have you been skating?
I’ve been skating I want to say for over a month now? So I have very little skating experience under my belt at the moment. And I had never skated prior to joining the team.
3. Are you interested in Blocking or Jamming? From what I’ve seen so far I’m interested in jamming. It looks like so much fun, not to mention hard work, and I would love to try that position out.
4. What do you love about playing roller derby?
What I love about roller derby is that every skill builds upon itself. You practice different moves and balancing and foot work and when you put it all together it helps you not only skate better but also feel more confident on your wheels. Every skill builds upon itself which has been a lot of fun as a new skater. Also, I love the community and the team when it comes to roller derby. It’s incredibly welcoming and so fun to be a part of.
5. Do you have any other hobbies?
In my free time I like to go hiking (only during the summertime. You will never catch me hiking in the winter). I love collecting oddities whether it be odd jewelry or taxidermy. I also enjoy reading and creating art, whether it’s drawing, painting, sewing, or creating random things. I love going to concerts, watching movies, and playing video games when I remember that they exist! I also collect Buffy the Vampire Slayer comic books.
RUBY DOOM #909

1. What was the inspiration behind your derby name? i originally knew i wanted to have the name “ruby” in there somewhere because of my red hair, and then it all came together when i remembered my favorite cartoon growing up: ruby gloom!
2. How long have you been skating? i’ve been incline skating for quite some time off and on, around 7 years or so, but it became a regular hobby of mine around 3 years ago. attending my first practice with spawn of skatin’ was pretty much the first time i’d ever rollerskated.
3. Are you interested in blocking or jamming? i have no clue yet, but im super excited to try out both positions and see what feels right. watching the rest of the team play both sides gets me hyped either way!
4. What do you love about playing roller derby? there’s so much i love about roller derby already. one thing is the exhilaration from the constant hard work, practice, and movement. pushing myself (to a healthy extent) is so refreshing and satisfying! another thing i love is the community. i haven’t been here very long but i already feel like i belong. spawn of skatin’ is such an incredible team in the sense that everyone shows sportsmanship and friendship, and im so happy i have the opportunity in becoming a part of it.
5. Do you have any other hobbies? my other hobbies consist of creating art such as drawing and painting, being outside whether that be casual hiking or just exploring nature trails, journaling and writing, and collecting antiques like old jewelry, random trinkets, and room decor!

7. What’s your favorite part about being in this league? Bee's circle of compliments. It shows even when we don't notice things we do or are working on. Our friends and teammates do.
KILLER BEE #818

1. How did you get into Roller Derby and what made you stay?
- my (now) husband and I were on a walk one day and saw a sign for spawn of skatin’ right in front of the rink. I looked at him and said, “what are the odds I join roller derby?” The rest is history. What’s been keeping me stay is the community of bad ass individuals who also took this leap. As well as the constant desire for improvement as there are ALWAYS things you can work on. No matter how long you’ve been in the sport.
2. Do you have any pre-bout rituals or superstitions?
- I don’t have much movement rituals. BUT lots of mental things. I have to listen to my hype song at the highest volume while I close my eyes and center myself. I also do have to wear my lucky Bee socks (although I need to find a new pair) because my old ones ripped. Not only that but I gotta have on my twirly skirt. Nobody suspects a badass in a skirt and bee socks. But I’m comin’ for ya!
3. What’s your biggest motivation?
- Biggest motivation that keeps me going is the belief that there is always more within ME. More power, more potential, more grit, more fierceness. Why stop at your comfort zone? When there’s always more.
4. What’s your derby hype song?
- Killer Bee by Beats Antique- who woulda thunk I got a song named after me?!? Jkjk My past teammate introduced me to the song and I was hooked ever since.
5. What’s something you wish people knew about Roller Derby?
- that it’s come a LONG way. I feel like so many people are caught up in the stereotypes or the old way. And yes while we still have some of those characteristics we are far developed and to just come check us out before inserting whatever beliefs you have.
6. What advice would you give to a new skater just starting derby?
- bend your knees! Even us vets needed to be reminded sometimes (also holy crap who made me a vet?!) once you feel yourself falling just bend em and see what happens! Thank me later. Oh and BREATHE.. when you are in a jam. Sometimes we forget the most basic skills.
7. What’s your favorite part about being in this league?
- The support, not only on the track but off it too. The peeps you meet in derby are keepers. They will support you through thick and thin. Give you the bestest hugs when you need em’ (except for Sam). Or the bestest advice (thanks Sam) It’s a community that is unlike any other. Love my SOS fam.

MONARCH MENACE #1424

1. What was the Inspiration behind your derby name?
Butterflies have such a special meaning to me and I really wanted a name to showcase that. I remember having a long list of different names and as soon as I had Monarch Menace written on paper I couldn't stop thinking about it. I love that it's sweet and graceful but also hardcore and dangerous and that's exactly the type of player I want to embody. I love my name, it brings out a different persona I never knew existed.
2. How many years have you been skating?
I've been skating for as long as I can remember. I remember stealing my older sister's inline skates as a kid and just spending my summers skating up and down the driveway. I've always loved roller skating, I feel like I always find myself going back to it every so often throughout my life.
3. Are you a Blocker or Jammer?
I'm not sure! I would love to master both! We'll see!!
4. What do you love about playing roller derby?
The people. This team is amazing! I've always roller skated but never done roller derby and this team is heaven sent. I've learned so much in such a small amount of time and it's really the leaders and the people that make something like this all worthwhile.
5. Do you have any other hobbies?
I like kickboxing, tennis, cooking, and social media. I love content creation! I enjoy making videos and taking pictures and being creative in ways to remember certain moments.

I also like to bake, I love trying new recipes I find online and sharing it with others. I love listening to music and going to concerts. It doesn’t matter which genre, I’m all over the place.
